Dave G’s 'Tim Robbins And The Rogues Gallery Band' - Tim Robbins And The Rogues Gallery Band Review:

Actor Tim Robbins firstly showed off his talents as a musician when he played folk-singing-politician in the film ‘Bob Roberts’ however it has taken him until the age of 51 to actually sit down and put together an album… and if you love country music inspired by Gypsy Americana then you’ll love this self-titled album, ‘Tim Robbins And The Rogues Gallery Band’.

As far as music goes Robbins ain’t half-bad. His voice suites the smooth country sound of tracks like ‘Book Of Josie’ while he even manages to pull off a catchy tune like ‘You’re My Dare’.

You realise as you listen to ‘Dreams’, ‘Lightning Calls’ and ‘Crush On You’ that it is slower music that Robbins is drawn to… and why not when he does it so well, however when he is inspired he can allow his aggression to show through in a faster track like ‘Time To Kill’ and ‘Queen Of Dreams’.

Robbins also sounds alarmingly like Paul Kelly when he delivers a story-telling track like ‘Toledo Girl’… which is one of the better tracks on the album, but closely followed by the piano driven ‘Moment In The Sun’ that does show that Robbins isn’t just another actor trying to be a musician… he really is a gifted musician deep down.

This is a heartfelt album that is for the serious country fan. Robbins’ voice does take a while to get used to but his first album is well worth a look.
