Dave’s Review:

One of the smoothest and most beautiful albums of the year rears its head with Thievery Corporation’s ‘Radio Retaliation’. This album was billed to be Thievery Corporation’s political album  and if that is the case then this Washington based duo truly believe in making love and not war, because this is one of the most sensual albums you will hear all year.

One of the things that is so appealing about ‘Radio Retaliation’ is that you never really know what you will get from track to track. There are the reggae inspired tracks like ‘Sound The Alarm’, ‘Radio Retaliation’ and ‘Blasting Through The City’, then there is the Indian sounding ‘Madala’ which features vocals from one of the world’s leading vocalists, Anoushka Shankar. This is very much an album for all cultures with Latin sounds on ‘El Pueblo Unido’, the tribal, ‘The Forgotten People’ and the beautiful French track, ‘La Femme Parallel’.

All this is enhanced by what Thievery Corporation does best and that is smooth electronica and that is clearly shown by the best tracks to be found here, ‘33’ and ‘Beautiful Drug’ the latter featuring vocals by Jana Andevska. These two tracks are two of the best electronica tracks to be released in a long while.

If you’re looking for an album to chill out then you need look no further.

RATING:- **** (out of 5)
