Dave’s Stigma's 'Concerto For The Undead' Review:
Before you chuck ‘Concerto For The Undead’ into your player first of all make sure you check that this is the band that you are after, because there are literally dozens of metal bands out there called Stigma. Just so you know this is the Italian death masters Stigma, who have a strange fascination with horror, so it is little surprise to learn that ‘Concerto For The Dude’ is a tribute to the classic ‘Tales From The Crypt’ comics.
While I wasn’t bought on Stigma’s debut feature I must admit they have won be over with this follow-up… they really do reveal some hidden musical talent that simply wasn’t there the first time round. This album is a standout for two reasons. Firstly guitarist, Andrea Magnaldi produces some sensational work on tracks like ‘Chop His Head Off’ and ‘…And They Died Happily Ever After’, while lead singer Stafano ‘Vlad’ Ghersi shows a massive improvement and he screams and growls his way through the album… I’d love to say which track he is best on, but seriously he is great on all of them… even slower tracks like ‘What About The Terror Ride’ that can sometimes trip up the front-person.
This is a stunning metal release and has completely blown me away. Tracks like ‘The Undertaker’ and a sensational hidden unnamed track are among some of the best metal tracks released this year.
Stigma have really proven themselves and deserve the title of Italy’s leading Metal Group… a brilliant album that I’m sure will win a heap of praise (and fans) with this talented group.
