Dave’s 'Beautiful World' - Rich Webb Review:

Rich Webb may be best known in Australia as the singer-guitarist for surf rockers The Stiff Kittens but over the last few years he has been making a name for himself across Europe as a solo artist… especially in Germany where they are already playing singles from his fourth studio album ‘Beautiful World’ on radio. And if you haven’t heard of Rich Webb’s solo music then you are in for a real treat because this album has so much to offer… each track has its own unique sound.

‘Gone, Gone, Gone’ is the first single from ‘Beautiful World’ and this beautiful blues-rock track really shows the emotion that Webb writes his music while, while fans of Paul Kelly will quickly lap up ‘White Dove (It’s Alright)’ in which Webb sounds so much like the Australian Master of Music it just isn’t funnier.

‘Loaded’ sees the album take a turn for the real rock side while the album’s title track is a beautiful pop-rock ballad that shows these kind of tracks don’t have to be ones that you automatically skip when playing an album. ‘Brand New Day’ is some fine Southern-Blues rock while ‘Dead Bodies’ begins with some strange harmonic vocals but then turns into some true ‘dirty’ rock.

The rock music continues with ‘Keep On Pushing In’ while ‘Amber’ is a haunting track that I found myself playing over and over. ‘Moon Girl’ finds Webb channeling David Bowie… and I really love it while ‘No, It Doesn’t Feel Right’ is another smooth pop rock track that you may find yourself playing over and over again. The country-style ‘My Life Story’ just rounds out what has turned out to be a very good album indeed.

Webb has managed to create a brilliant album, now just lets hope that Australia sits up and takes notice.

RATING:- ***½ (out of 5)
